Chlorpheniramine maleate
Indications/Uses
Allegic conditions including hay fever, urticaria, angioedema, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic eczema, atopic & contact dermatitis, drug & serum reactions, insect bites, pruritus.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 4 mg 4-6 hrly, max: 24 mg/24 hr. Childn 6-12 yr 2 mg 4-6 hrly, max: 12 mg/24 hr, 2-5 yr 1 mg 4-6 hrly, max: 6 mg/24 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to antihistamines. MAOI therapy w/in 14 days. Newborn or prematures.
Special Precautions
Narrow-angle glaucoma, bronchial asthma, hyperthyroidism, CV disease, prostatic hypertrophy, stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstruction, bladder neck obstruction. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Sedation, inability to concentrate, lassitude, dizziness, hypotension, muscular weakness, incoordination, GI disturbances, headache, blurred vision, tinnitus, elation or depression, irritability, nightmares, anorexia, difficulty in micturition, dry mouth, chest tightness, tingling, heaviness & weakness of hands.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs, CNS depressants including alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, narcotic analgesics, sedatives & tranquillisers, aminoglycosides.
